The essence of a human being – mind and all of memories are stored in the C-body (spiritual body) and the C-energy Units of the C--body.  Physical brain only serves the purpose of processing sequential or linear information and signals in the physical world or P-domain and via the P-body. 

Every C-body of every human being leaves the physical or P-body at some point during sleep.  It does that for many reasons including to be re-energized in the domain where it really belongs – the C-domain. 

The process of separation of C-body from P-body is not easy or simple and very few individuals can do it at will.  We all do it during sleep (always the case during the REM part of sleep), but most have no memories of that or direct C-domain experiences have been translated by our Ego Mind into the symbols of physical life it knows about.
